Point Shirley

Motivation... ran 5 miles today and somehow manage to feel like crap.... but I did it, and as a result (in addition to my cheeze it and mango sorbet diet that was the weekend) I have lost another 2 pounds. Wahoo. With any luck I will be able to wear a two piece for the first time since I was 12.

I discovered a new genre of books that I have been overlooking for quite some time... short stories. I know it sounds so simple. However, I never really considered myself a fan, I had started to open up to it after I read the genius of Augusten Burroughs (if you haven't read him, do it!) but then I was still on the fence. I figured it was just the one author. On the reccomendation of one of my sons I read "I am Legend".... AMAZING! Seriously. It really surprised me, especially considering the fact that I had no intention of even seeing the movie, nor any compulsion to read the book. But I read it, its a long short story in a book of short stories. I then realized that short stories have their own wonderfulness in them, its like a book of christmas presents. You read one story and it gets you in one mood, and then BAM, otu of nowhere comes another story thats completely different but completely amazing in its own right. And some of them are the simplest two page tale of a man at a carnival or a bathtime experience.... and thus ends my applause of the genre that is the short story.

In other news, I am not sure I have any other news. Though I am excited for the release of Across the Universe, which I have not seen as of yet but know it will be amazing. In short I am excited. Other than work, running and the books there is absolutely nothing going on in Virginia. It has gotten surprisingly warm, so I will share that with you non existent readers.

I find that the more I read the more I think in a narrative. Its weird... especially when I am reading historical fictions, then the prose takes a turn for the old english or french.
